Somehow in my weeks, possibly months, of research prior to getting on that KLM plane I somehow managed to not cover weather patterns in Moshi properly. It is hot. Very hot. Two weeks ago, it was very much bearable and similar to late Spring back home. I would think nothing of spending two hours in the sun walking to town and back. I think the times have changed.
Somehow the earth is turning even closer to the sun at this equatorial city. Just sitting in the office is sometimes irritating, with only 2 fans and little breeze sneaking in the door and windows. I now wait until the sun sets before showering, because really what is the point otherwise? Even the locals are complaining.
I turned to Jane today and said "at least the heat will be gone in 2 months!" trying to be cheery. She wasn't amused, she thought I meant because I was leaving, I guess the heat stays longer than that? The combination of no beaches, the need to have my shoulders and knees covered and sweltering heat is one that my brain can't quite comprehend.
Alas, it is raining outside right now but I think that only means there will be less dust and more mud tomorrow on the walk to work. And perhaps a few more mosquitoes. *sigh* But I do love the smell of rain, and the prospect of photographing the lightning in the distance.
Ramblings:
I may have overgeneralized in my description of Tanzanian men in the last post, they aren't all like that, just one that happened to press all my buttons. I apologize.
Rice cooked with vegetables tastes good but I think I figured out why Ramadan takes place this time of year. Its too hot to eat during the day!
I saw my pet gecko crawl between the ceiling and the wall the other day, it was pretty cool
Then I saw another gecko on the screen in the bathroom, I took pictures
The cockroach in my fridge was not cool. Quite the opposite, but apparently that is normal here...*double sigh*

Hi, can you wear sleeveless shirts? Do you want me to send you more capri's? Most summer stuff is on sale here.
Oy, heat...yeah I experienced some of that when I went to Puntaranus this weekend...and it´s less loved friend...humidity...I am glad I live in the mountains...it is a bit cooler.
Also...sorry to disappoint you but the dates of Ramadan change each year...the islamic calender year is on the lunar cycle and thus shorter...so it moves...personally I liek it better in Canada when it is in January....cause that means the day is shorter...
Ooo...I never thought of it though, because of the Islamic influence...what it Ramadan like in Tanzania?
I can wear sleeveless shirts, but I only brought one :)
I'm going to see what I can find clothing wise in Arusha this weekend then I'll give you my shopping list.
As for Ramadan, I was a bit nervous to say that because I wasn't sure of the dates, sorry! I hope that didn't come across ignorant and offensive.
It is interesing here right now because apparently restaurants are usually packed around 6pm, but during Ramadan they dont fill up until after 8pm. I wonder if that affects business? Also, in the past few days I have noticed at night there is a lot of music and singing very late, but since I moved recently I dont know if thats the "neighbourhood" or a result of Ramadan.
I haven't seen any Mosques in town, but there are nice Hindu and Sikh temples.
One of the girls at my work said that there aren't many Muslims in town, but another coworker said there are quite a few. All I know at this point is there are zero Jews and many, many Christians.
